A FlyDubai Boeing 737-800 carrying 55 passengers from Dubai crashed Saturday killing everyone on board, including seven crew members.The passenger jet, flying from Dubai, crashed in the southern city of Rostov-on-Don after it missed the runway as it attempted to land at 03:50 Russian time.
The airline said 44 Russians, eights Ukrainians, two Indians, and an Uzbek were killed. The dead also included four children. The crash was followed by an explosion and a huge flash, according to CCTV footage.
“The aircraft hit the ground and broke into pieces,” said the Investigative Committee of Russia on its website.
V.I Markin, Head of Media Relations at Investigative Committee of Russia, said the vice-chairman of the committee, Boris Kamaukhov, immediately flew to the crash site.
“Criminalists of the Criminalistics Directorate of the Investigative Committee who have experience in investigating air crashes have also taken off for the site.
“A large number of urgent investigative operations are underway to find out the causes of the crash,” Markin added.
FlyDubai, an airline launched in 2009, operates flights to about 90 destinations.
