Whoa! You Can Now Check Your HIV Status Using This USB Device

 

Scientists always work round the clock to come up with solutions to human problems. This time, we have a USB device that you can use to check your HIV virus status, made by scientists at Imperial College London and tech firm DNA Electronics. All you need is a simple drop of blood to measure HIV-1 levels. The device then creates an electrical signal that is fed into a computer, laptop, or handheld device. A woman in Guangzhou, China, was devastated to find her son was born with an eye condition which means he has little or no eye tissue.
The condition Anophthalmia is said to affect one in every 100,000 children, and it means that the boy will never be able to see.

This is really touching! This baby was born with his heart outside his body at a local hospital in Gaidam area of Yobe state. Hausa Facebook page Rariya shared the photos online and also said the baby was immediately rushed to University Teaching Hospital, Maiduguri, Borno State for a life saving surgery.  This extremely rare condition - Ectopia Cordis - affects eight in every million births. Businessman dies from brain tumour after spending 6 hours a day on his mobile phone

A man that spent six hours a day on his mobile phone has died of a brain tumour that he believes was caused by radiation exposure. Ian Phillips, 44, vowed to beat the disease after he was told he had a growth the size of a lemon in his brain. Oh Wow!!: Scientists Eliminate HIV From DNA Of Human Cells

Using a specialised gene editing system, scientists have shown that they can effectively eliminate HIV from the DNA of human cells, paving the way for a cure for patients infected with the virus that causes AIDS.

"Antiretroviral drugs are very good at controlling HIV infection. But patients on antiretroviral therapy who stop taking the drugs suffer a rapid rebound in HIV replication," said Kamel Khalili, at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University in US.
