Two Girls Drowned In a Galamsey Pit at Manso Akropong

Two young girls have drowned in an abandoned galamsey pit at Manso Akropong in the Amansi West district of the Ashanti region.


The girls aged 12 and 15 years went to a stream to wash their clothes when the unfortunate incident occurred.

According to reports, one of the girls slipped and fell into the pit which is near the stream and in an attempt to rescue her friend, who was trapped; the other also fell and drowned.


Father of one of the girls, Yaw Kobi blamed the chief of the area for leasing the land to the Chinese for galamsey.

The 37-year-old father of 12 added that the daughter will be greatly missed because she was a very brilliant girl in school.

Yaw Kobi said the family will meet to give the deceased a biffing burial.

Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the morgue pending autopsy.
