At 7ft 4 inches, his size was a result of gigantism caused by excess growth hormone. It also led to him being called "The Eighth Wonder of the World". In 2014, he was described as the ninth tallest professional wrestler in history.
In the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now known as WWE), André was a WWF World Heavyweight Champion and a one-time WWF Tag Team Champion. While in Paris to attend his father's funeral, Andre died in his sleep of congestive heart failure on Jan. 27, 1993 at the age of 46. May 19 would have been his 70th birthday.
